Two Handed & Switch Lines
Especially with the two-handed fly lines a lot has happened in recent years. RIO is considered a pioneer and market leader in two-handed fly lines and their development. At the moment the trend is that the rods are shorter and they therefore need to be equipped with modern two-handed fly lines to get the best out of them. RIO summarized the current market and made a "Spey Line Recommendations 2019" per rod manufacturer. You can download Spey Line Recommendations 2019: HERE
How do I choose the right string for switch and two-handed rods?
First, choose the line type
You can choose from the following types of fly lines / shootingheads:
Skagit Shooting Head:
Requires Running Line and Tips (MOW Tips, VersiLeader or 15 ft. Replacement Tips) best for larger flies and sinking tips - very easy to throw
Scandi Shooting Head:
Requires Running Line and possibly Tips (MOW Tips or VersiLeader) ideal for smoother and more accurate presentations and smaller flies (such as salmon flies) - easy to throw
Trout Spey Shooting Head:
Requires Running Line and possibly tips (MOW Tips or VersiLeader) perfect for short switch rods or single-handed rods - easy to throw
Shooting head integrated with Running Line:
If necessary, tips (MOW tips or VersiLeaders) are ideal for those who do not like the shooting Head and separate running line system - perfect for beginners
Then choose the right line weight for your rod
Each rod needs a corresponding weight (grain / gram) to load it properly. Follow the manufacturer's recommendations.
